Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2 Corinthians 3:17
The City, The People
Detroit’s reputation depends on the era. Nearly 2 million people lived in Detroit in 1950, now just under 700 thousand do. Detroit’s history is rich, deep and complex, but what’s now clear is this: a sense of adversity and hardship, beat back by relentless hope. Detroiters are resolute and gritty. The communities, families and neighbors are beautiful; they’re proud, tough and faithful to one another. Spiritually, the area feels in many ways like the physical state – decayed but in repair, with incredible and miraculous shoots of unique and fresh movement. There’s vibrant Kingdom life and people filled with faith. Detroit is ready for a historic move of God, and believers have been laboring, praying, fasting and working. As a family, we join those already in place and hope to add our small bit of strength, heart and skill to the faithful laborers in Detroit for the sake of His glory here.
The Mission
Ezekiel was told to prophecy to a people and a city in ruins in Ezekiel 36 and 37. He was told by the Lord to speak to dry bones and to say to the breath. We believe God is moving by His Spirit here – in the Spirit of Detroit (2 Corinthians 3:17). In the time to come, by the will of God, we believe Detroit will see true revival – people spiritually reborn and physically cared for, homes and families restored, houses rebuilt, ruins made new and a city revived from the inside out. The reputation of Detroit will be: “the Lord is there.” As a family, yes, we live in Dearborn, across the street from Detroit proper, but we’re no less gripped with a heart and vision – much like Ezekiel – to see all of Metro Detroit know God. As Jesus transforms and multiplies disciples, He will continue to establish His Kingdom and His glory in greater measure in Detroit.
